The SA market comfortably accommodates over ~200 operators, all competing for the (rapidly growing) $5.6bn+ annual revenue. Historically no exchange was possible due to licensing, banking, settlement, tech & liquidity constraints. WRT exchanges, there is ample room for multiple operators.

Currently, SA is a two horse race to the starting line. There is only one credible competitor (Racecoast) who are building an exchange to invest in the horse-racing industry.

Speed to market is is of paramount importance to establish the “first to market” title, player base and action.

REGULATORY POSITION

BETMATCH holds one of only three Exchange Bookmaker licences issued by the North West Gambling Board.

Of the remaining licences:

  • One is held by Cape Racing, which is aligned with Betfair
  • One by a retail operator with no online platform or liquidity capability

The BetMatch licence is issued, reviewed, and supported by senior counsel opinions. All probity, BEE, and disclosure requirements have been met.

Licensing scarcity provides a meaningful barrier to entry.
